Sweet Fantasy
Theatre Workshop's second production. Presented in June, 1996.

By the second semester of Theatre Workshop, our expectations are clear from the beginning- working hard on another original theater piece. Our class now has slightly more experienced students, most who were a part of the first show, working to create the next one. This one is a bit more ambitious and focused, a little larger in scope than the previous one- now two short acts instead of only one. The show develops a sharper version of the theme originally explored the semester before. The concept of fantasy is used as a metaphor for a life with limitless possibilities. This includes a more peaceful world with greater understanding of all that challenges us in our families and community. Highlights include: West Side Storys "Officer Krupke", with a female Officer Krupke, "Rain" a modern dance statement about physical and emotional abuse; a comic version of "Sailor Moon"; TWs first group hip hop dance performed to Mariah Careys "Sweet Fantasy", the pro-environment song "Air", and a creative interpretation of Romeo and Juliets death scenes. The shows finale includes the full cast and a stage full of bouncing, colorful balloons, a symbol of freedom and forgiveness and hope.

With this show, TW also began its commitment to community with a performance on the steps of City Hall as part of a citywide anti-violence demonstration.
