I Got Life
Theatre Workshop's fifth production. Presented in December, 1997.

TWs third year begins with two very full sections, lots of energy and large goals. This year period 2 is labeled Advanced Theatre Workshop and contains those students with prior experience in the program. Period 6 is called Beginning Theatre Workshop, for those just starting out. Both sections participate fully in the creation of the show along with this years TA Philip Jeanmarie, a talented, former TW student. This show explores various concepts of life and death, and making the best of every day that we are given. Our friend John Akamine joins us as musical director (hell work with us several times again in the future), helping the live music in the show sound more professional. Highlights include: The title musical number "I Got Life" from the show Hair; our first student teacher dance project "Everything In Its Own Time" a womens dance piece memorably showing the unbreakable connection between women of all generations; "Without You" a touching memorial to loved ones who have passed, presented with slides; "I Get Knocked Down" an athletic dance demonstrating male solidarity and spirit; and several scenes both comic and dramatic, based on the real-life memories of our students everything from a visit to the dentist to a child saying goodbye to his mom as she makes the trip to the US without him.

For the second year in a row, a half hour version of the show is entered in the annual University of LaVerne high school theater competition and wins two major awards "Outstanding Production" and "Outstanding Ensemble".
